Graveren II, Diamantgravure

Met een diamantstift kunnen voorstellingen en/of teksten op glas gekrast worden; meestal wordt een stukje diamant gebruikt gevat in een houder; vooral in de 17e eeuw in nederland: calligrafie, voorstellingen en portretten: Anna Roemer Visser, Maria Tesselschade, W. van Heemskerk, W. Mooleyser en M. van Gelder; nu weer een gebruikelijke techniek; uitgebreid met de mogelijkheid met een vibrerende handmachine met hardstalen punt het glasoppervlak te bewerken. The technique of decorating glass by scratching the surface with a diamond. Diamond-tipped tools may have been used by the ancient Romans and in the medieval Islamic world, but they were popularized by the Venetians in the 16th century. Diamond-point engraving was carried to some of its greatest artistic heights in the Netherlands during the 17th century. Today, other hard materials, such as tungsten carbide, are used instead of diamonds.
